Mental health and fertility, the generation lens

Research into South Asian women's mental health in the context of fertility tends to show two distinct patterns. First-generation migrants more often describe anxiety linked to family expectation, pressure from in-laws, fear of blame, and the social consequences of childlessness.

Second- and third-generation women more often describe body-image distress, difficulty reconciling UK openness with family reticence, and anger at having never been taught about their own bodies. The diagnoses may overlap, anxiety, depression, but what helps looks different.

Both pictures benefit from sleep, movement, and reducing alcohol, not as 'cures', but as supports that make therapy more effective.
